Ryan Lowry received his master’s degree in history from the University of Missouri St. Louis in 2024. He also received certifications in museum studies, heritage, public history, and university teaching. Before that he received his bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in French from the University of Missouri St. Louis in 2022.
Ryan’s personal passion lies in French cultural history, specifically studying this change in identity-from intense French nationalism sponsored by le bloc national to the more diverse identities that have emerged from le nouvel histoire-through the lenses of colonization, gender, and nationalism. He follows the work of historians Pierre Nora, Fernand Braudel, and Mark Bloch in studying the French identity crisis that has emerged as of the 1970s and how that crisis is being experienced in former colonized territories. Living in St. Louis, Missouri, Ryan is perfectly situated to study the French colonial connections in St. Louis and the surrounding areas. During his study of French cultural identity, Ryan has written several pieces on topics connected to the his main interest, such as:
- Archives in the Context of Identity
- A French Political History
- Cholera the Conqueror and the Saint Louis Outbreak of 1849
- The Truth of the French Revolution
- Forced Play and Governmental Recreation Programs
- The Differences in World War I Propaganda
